I am a visual artist based in Edinburgh Art is work. Artists are workers. I see my job as encouraging everybody's native creativity, including my own. I've been making things all my life: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, film, photography. Most of what I do is about people trying to live well in the face of increasingly difficult circumstances. Almost all of the work arises from drawing; from observation or imagination, dreams memory and visions. Drawing connects me with reality.
I like the work to be about something. If the work means anything, that might only become clear long after I have made it. And what it means to me could well be different from what it means to anybody else.
As well as doing my own individual work I like to work in, for and with the community. Artists can play a crucial role in the struggle for a better world. Under the present circumstances, we need human creativity more than ever.
Our work needs to be seen. That's why I like taking part in exhibitions. And some of the work is for sale, in shows and on this site. There are details on these pages. web: mikespringarts.co.uk Instagram: michaelspring_9 e: [email protected]
