Most of what I do seems to be about people trying to live well in the face of increasingly difficult circumstances. I like to work in a wide variety of media: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, film photography. Trying something new usually stimulates the imagination. Almost everything arises from drawing, whether from from observation; looking at people, things, landscape, also from imagination, dreams, visions. Drawing with my ‘other ‘hand, drawing with my eyes shut. It kind of gets my thinking out there where I can see it. Connects me with reality. The meaning of the work might only become clear some time after I have made it. I like how people sometimes see things in the work that I had no idea about.
